Press Club Wall, May 7th, A.Shay Hahn

Spent the day in the shop yesterday building frames, I just love buying a stack of 10x12's and going to town on them (see the Royal Families, (50), What if, labels section), I know there are other things I'm supposed to be doing but I feel like painting and it's hard to get me to do anything else if I want to paint, so don't even try.

The Bottom shot is the Press Club wall which I went and fixed yesterday, if you scroll down you can see how lopsided it was, well, this looks awesome and here's the price list

RAYGUNS! 8x10 inches, acrylic on canvas, framed $80.00ea. or two for $150.00

Woman with Two Axes, Pick Axe, Violin, Pilot, Sledgehammer, The Man Who Stopped to Read, The Ballad of Danny Larusso I & II, Deep Sea Diver, The Fencer

All pieces are 10x12inches,acrylic on canvas, framed $140.00 each

Have a great day,

Woman With Two Axes, the return

Woman with Two Axes

10x12inches,acrylic on canvas, framed

$140.00

I'll be hanging this piece and another either today or later on in the week at the Press Club, it's been awhile since we've seen the axe women, I thought it would be nice to bring them back for a limited time.

Sixteen 6x6's prepped and ready to go

Sixteen new little babies waiting for the brush. There will be some big announcements coming up in the following weeks, a new project has been confirmed and I am thrilled to be the artist chosen to create the work. Once I get some sketches and measurements etc. ready to go I'll fill you in on what I'm doing.

Have a happy Free Comic Book Day

Press Club Wall, Thursday May 3rd

What is at the Press Club and Why you should buy it.

Six Million Dollar Man $80.00

this is a fine, fine rendering of the Six Million Dollar Man 30cm tall action figure that if you are between the ages of 40 and 45 you wish that you had kept instead of selling it at your family garage sale in 1982.

Pick Axe $140.00

The musculature and pose of the figure in this piece is exquisite, the hair gives a very definite sense of movement, very empowering.

RAYGUNS! $80.each/ 2 for $150.00

Nothing says I am retro but also eager to embrace the future like a couple of rayguns hanging on your wall.

Violin $140.00

A sturdy and secure execution of a woman playing a violin, or depending on the company you keep, this could also be a fiddle.

Pilot $140.00

One of A.Shay Hahn's trademark "red airplanes" a must for collectors.

Black Hammer $140.00

Nothing says feminine power like a woman in a nightie holding a black sledgehammer.

The Man Who Stopped to Read $140.00

If you love the Classics, or walking sticks, or both, this is the piece for you.

The Balled of Daniel Larusso I & II $140.00 each

From our "Pure Nostalgia" series a fond look back to 1984 and the film that brought us all closer together

Deep Sea Diver and The Fencer $140.00 each

If you consider your apartment, condo or house "slick" then you need these two hot hits of red to make that entryway really shout.

There you go folks, so head on down to the Press Club, 850 Dundas West. Yes the wall looks a little lopsided but I hope to have two more pieces finished by Monday to hang.

The Ballad of Danny Larusso

10x12inches,acrylic on canvas,framed

$140.00

I get alot of traffic to the blog because of the Mariachi! skeleton paintings that I do, personally I prefer the Skeleton Hallowe'en costumes which I've painted a few times. I wanted to get some new work up at the Press Club and shoot the wall there and while I was painting the Marvel Series I started blocking in some new musicians and eventually I ended up here, laughing my ass off.

I mean seriously, who didn't love the Karate Kid?

I'll be hanging this one this eve, the last skeleton piece I did (see labels (50) was stolen from the Press Club and I figure this is also a way to trap the thief.

Of course for every painting I take out of the Press Club (850 Dundas West) I have to replace it so here's "Man with Hammer" he's hanging there now for awhile. Love this piece, there is also "The Falconer" the female version and a "Woman with Two Axes" hanging there, but I didn't have my camera.

Where I am

Hey there just wanted to drop a quick postcard to let you know where I've been. I'm currently spending most of my time over at the Any How Town blog (see link at right) and will posting there almost daily.

I only have one commission coming up so there won't be many paintings posted here for the next while, I'm working incredibly hard on finishing the first book in the Any How Town series and that blog is where you can read about it's progress, see dioramas and tutorials about how to build your own popsicle stick vehicles and buildings and check out sketches of characters.

Follow along on twitter to keep up with postings and don't forget to head to the Press Club or the Wilson 96 to see paintings available for sale, all proceeds going to helping me finish the books.

have a beauty day,

Globe pieces at the Wilson 96

The Hammer Team, The Paintter's Assistants

30x30inches, acrylic on canvas

$700.00 each

Currently at the Wilson 96 (615 College Str, across from the CHIN building and the Royal Cinema) two of my most favourite pieces. The Globes are wonderful, I love them and so does everyone else, I really do miss doing large scale work, so much so that last night on the street car ride home I'd convinced myself that it was time to go big again and to work in oil so when I'm finished this month of working on the Any How Town books (see links, right margin) I just may do that.

Many thanks to S.Power for letting me hang the work, the Wilson 96 is now open for coffee during the day so you can drop in on these two pieces pretty much any time you like and if you dig trivia it's the place to be on Tuesday nights.

Here's the current layout at the Press Club not only would it be worth the trip to head down to Dundas West and pick up some wonderful artwork by yours truly (and help me pay for my wedding, seriously) but you can also go check out the "building" that has replaced the Musa building almost right across the street.

Why should I do that ? You ask

Because it is so well constructed that it almost BLEW OVER in the wind last week. It's a building!

Other things to do on Dundas, no doubt you've seen the "Robo call" controversy on the news, well I reported about it first, here's a link to the post

I haven't picked up a paintbrush in  a couple of weeks except to do some diorama painting (see Any How Town again). When I've fnished this draft and typed up the second draft of Book Two I have a commission to finish, it will be nice to switch gears for awhile all of this typing is hurting my fingers.

A Cup of Crows, buy a painting fund a book

A Cup of Crows

12x12inches,acrylic on canvas, unframed

$120.00

I'm trying to remember what year/month/show it was that I began sticking things in cups, there were crows, gorillas, rocketships, deepsea divers (of course), little blackbirds, howling wolves, Samoyeds, all kinds of people commissioned their own special cup full of stuff, I also attempted Roosters and Pigs but never finished them. I'll go back into this blog and organize the tags properly one day so you can see all of the "Women with an Axe" pieces, "Deep Sea Divers", "Cups" etc. just not right now.
(NOTE: It was October 6, 2009 that the first two paintings of things in cups were done. I was asked on facebook so I went and had a look.)

Hoping to hit 30 000+ words today in Any How Town Book One so there's lots to do, click on the Any How Town link to see what I'm talking about and buy a painting! All monies go to funding this campaign to write my first series of books, paypal is accepted and I ship to anywhere worldwide

Tom Waits Project, Hang on St.Christopher

Hang on St.Christopher

10x12inches,acrylic on canvas,framed

$140.00

Here's the other "Tom Waits Project" piece, though not a literal image of St.Christopher still a hell of a lot of fun, there was another of a man carrying a fox playing a trumpet that was alot of fun too. This is probably in my top five favourite Tom Waits songs.

We hit 27 000 words today, I may just work through the night and try to add another 1000 to our tally.

Tom Waits Project

Don'tcha Know There Ain't No Devil

10x12inches,acrylic on canvas,framed

$140.00

From "the Tom Waits Project" a series that I thought was going to be my 2011 show but quickly lost interest in the sketches that I'd done, I did four pieces that I liked (the above being one of them) and then walked away from the rest, the others didn't have the visual oomph that I wanted for them.

The Diver, The Fencer

$140.00 each

We've hit the 25,000 word mark in book one of Any How Town, hopefully we'll hit 50,000 before the 18th of Feb. Here are some more pieces that we have in the studio that haven't been shown in awhile, I honestly thought these would sell first at my fist show I had at the Wilson 96, quel surprise.

Deep Sea Divers, Royal Families and Rayguns OR the Press Club Wall, Jan. 30th

Press Club Wall Jan,30th 2012

Six Million Dollar Man $80, Pick Axe $140, Propellor $140, Violin $140,the Pilot $140, RAYGUNS! two for $150., $80.each, The Archer DONATED TO AUCTION, Musical Goon $220, Dea Seep Diver with Drum $140, Canadian Girl (Black Flag) $160, The Duel (Two Drummers) SOLD, Deep Sea Diver with Guitar $140, Chimpanzee with Viking Helmet $80.

Here's what is hanging at the Press Club (850 Dundas West, open 6:30ish) a finer selection could not be found in any gallery in Toronto. As you can see any pieces from "The Royal Families" are still $140.00 in an effort to pay for me to write the first book of the Any How Town series (See links) I'm at 21,500 words into the second draft and about 70,000 more words to go and edit before starting the Third draft, it's alot of work.  Expect more posting over at the Any How Town blog as I'm currently not working on any new paintings, but I might be doing an album cover sometime soon, stay tuned for that.
Of the pieces shown above I cannot believe I haven't sold "Propellor" or "Pick Axe" yet, strangely my favourite painting from the whole series was "The Duel (two drummers)" I'm not sure that one will ever sell, but it's really awesome.
