The Royal Families, The Pilot by Night
SOLD.
Here we are back at it on a sunny Friday, have a great long weekend, if you're looking for something to do check out Meadowlark Five, Milk Run and The Big City Hicks at the Press Club this weekend. I'm sure they'll have the patio open. There is also a fine selection of mariachi, red devils and deep sea divers there for you. I think anxiety week began for this show yesterday, so it can be said that it's here a little early for my tastes. I have about ten more pieces I'd like to finish, some are currently an absolute mess and then I'll be in the shop building frames like a crazy man, yes a crazy man, next week.

Royal Families, pants on fire.
from the series "Royal Families" to be shown at the Cameron House, June 2011
10x12inches, acrylic on canvas, framed
SOLD.
I've been wanting to do this for quite awhile, as long as another piece that I'm doing, "the man who loved cocktails". I think for something based around a children's taunt it turned out quite well.

The Royal Family, Lion Headed Girl
Other things I am doing while trying to finish this show, I am putting things outside the studio and see if people take them, I put out the birdhouses that I built (all but the smallest, I'm keeping that one) and they're gone, I put out a bunch of books and may put out more, most of those are gone. I think tomorrow I'll put out a bunch of cd's and see how long it takes for them to go. I have to reduce the amount of things I own by at least a third, maybe more. Honestly, alot of these things have just been sitting here gathering dust, I make things, I don't keep them.
I've been trying to get through Jim Steranko's great run on Nick Fury (thanks K.Hudson) it's hilarious, action packed and wordy and just keeping a good bunch of notes in my head for Any How Town, which I'd love to write as a serial, similar to the Hardy Boys or Enid Blyton, short 200 page books that look at a couple of aspects of Any How Town (see links) and also has a greater story that would culminate around book five or six.
talk soon true believers, time for oatmeal with protein powder and a nap,
p.s alot of traffic came through this blog after I posted Kevin Quain's bit about what happened with Mr.Hindmarch a couple of Sunday's ago, I asked Kevin to write a follow up about what happened the following Sunday, but haven't heard back from him. If I hear anything I'll let you know.

Royal Families, The Middleton Thing and etc.
What else, I suppose the first image from Royal Families "Pitchfork" reminds me of Jackie Onassis, something about the baggy sweater and bandana, if she ever wore these things I'm not sure. The Life Jackets definitely get me thinking about the Kennedy burial at sea of JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bissette. Expect a couple more of those to show up. I'm surprised how long it has taken me to settle on what I'm doing for the Cameron House show, there were some false starts and lots of small works leading up to this run of productivity, but everything feels to be in the right place, but I said in earlier posts, I haven't had a cigarette in a few days so I am trying to keep my hands as busy as possible so if there is a bombardment of crazy stuff showing up here, that is also a factor.

Mariachi Drummer at the Press Club
and here's another bad boy to see at the Press Club, playing there tonight are the Mark Inside, the Pow Wows and the Bon, definitely a rock show worth attending. I think the name, "the Pow Wows" is probably the best band name I've heard in ages.

Mariachi! At the Press Club
I'll be adding a few of the 8x10's that I'm showing at the Cameron House in June to my dedicated wall at the Press Club. I may also start to post some of the nautical themed sketches I've been doing, but have to have a secret meeting about why I'm doing them first, more on that Monday or Tuesday if all goes according to plan.

New Found Land Flag, bit of a holiday

commission ($160.00 framed)
Yes, I've been away for awhile, needed to take a bit of a break from daily painting/posting etc. and just relax, build a barn out of popsicle sticks and get my energy back up to Full, I will be posting some more work by the end of the week but for now, I'm just relaxing.
Updated Info. my usual May show at the Cameron House will be postponed until June, I did have older work there for Jan/Feb (was it, or was it Feb/Mar?) so let's take a break and let the new work get finished, lots of work that is 3/4 of the way there, so no need to rush or panic. Nice to have another month.
To currently see my work in Toronto, please head on down for a fine meal to Cowbell Restaurant or go to the Press Club (850 Dundas West) to hear some great music, maybe even sit on their great patio in the back if the weather improves. It is perfectly alright to purchase work from the bartenders if I am not available.

So yesterday went a little like this... (picto diary)
That's the damn trick with these blowing clothes and a centered hat rack, the figure still has to command the picture, it can't appear to be blowing right out of it. So, like my note yesterday I added the dress as a second figure to try to counter the balance, no dice Jimbo, we have to move the whole figure over and make sure it still sits properly on one of the hooks. Looks much better.Friday, April 15, 2011

Red Devils, Mariachi and the hardest working man in two dimensions
I've been going nonstop since hanging the show at Cowbell (which really looks great) and trying to work through getting some commissions finished and working on the April Grid Diaries, so my best friend has been the DVD player, so far I've been through ( I can't say "watched" because I don't really watch them 100%) "Spartacus Blood and Sand" and Arrested Development Season Three. I just started "Damages" and Glenn Close already scares the crap out of me. I'll take a quick break now to maybe hang the two Red Devils at the Press Club and then get back to it. Expect a finished view of the mariachis tonight or tomorrow afternoon.
Also, in a colossal mistake of "measure once, cut once" I mad EIGHT of the 8x10 frames I"m building too small, so will have to custom make EIGHT stretchers too fit inside them, oh joy.
stay cool,
A.Shay Hahn
New Foundland Tartan
After doing the Cape Breton Tartan piece I was asked to do the above, I now beg for mercy and ask for no more tartan commissions for two weeks, you can order the pieces, I just won't start them for two weeks as the fluids in my eyes are completely scrambled after doing the two in such close proximity. "Canadian Girl" flag pieces can be commissioned, any flag is possible really, they can be done in 10x12 or 12x12 and framed. to see others click the label "Canadian Girl Project" in the Labels section of the blog.
Back to it, lots to do today,

Today at the Easel
Today I woke up (incredibly early) and really didn't feel like working on any of the pieces that I currently have on the go, I did some work on the commissions that I'm finishing this week but my heart just wasn't into any of my own personal work. I was in a bit of a foul mood today, and decided instead to let my dark mood express itself so started laying in these pieces on several 10x12 canvases. Not sure what the next step is for them, but it did cheer me up somehow.
