Where to Find Me In January

hey folks hope you're having a happy holiday season, if you've wondered where I've been or
what I've been doing since "Satellite Pacific" at the Cameron House head over to the Homeless G-Men blog (top right, just click it) and you can read all of the comic news.
I'll be posting a lot of drawings in the next month which will be shown at Seven Crowns Tattoo (Toronto) on Feb. 7th.
The three comics I created, the Homeless G-men, Battle Rally and Crypto Zombic will be arriving at my door soon and will be available for purchase in February or sooner once I get more storenvy site set up.
Work from Satellite Pacific (and other paintings) are still available for purchase, just contact me here if you're interested.

Satellite Pacific at the Cameron House

The show is up and looking fine my friends. The wrinkles will come put of the drops once they've had a while to hang and I'm going to spritz them with warm water to finish it off and get them nice and flat.
Head on down whenever you like (they open at 4pm) and catch some live music at the best bar in the city. The closing reception is Sat. Nov. 29th from 4-7pm with music by Colonel Tom and the American Pour.
If you have any questions, inquiries or would like to make an appointment to meet up just let me know.
cheers, stay warm and set the clocks back

The Modern Lights

The Modern Lights
30x30 inches, acrylic on canvas
$700.00
at the Cameron House
Show goes up Sat. Nov 1rst, Closing Reception - Sat. November 29th, 4-7pm
This piece to a very long time to get to a place where I was happy with it, there are hundreds of buried brushstrokes in this one that you may not even see up close. It's among my favourites of the piece for the show. I hope that folks like statement paintings in their home this is a bold one.

Everything that I have in the studio (part one)

Tantrum
16x20 inches, acrylic on canvas
$500.00
I'll start this post by throwing up one of the oldest paintings that I still have, this is from 1996 and I thought for a long time that I would never want to sell it. I would sometimes hang it in shows and price it at four times the value of the highest priced painting in the exhibition.
I have almost finished compiling an album of every painting that I currently have available for sale in the studio, if you are on facebook you can click the link below and go to the album, I will be finishing shooting the rest of the work over the next couple of days and will notify blogland when that happens.
cheers,

New Shapes, Late night gesture

That is a picture of Double standing on a pile of bricks in our yard, uploaded by mistake but hey, he's the most photogenic dog I've ever met, so have a look.
Stayed up very late a couple of nights ago blocking in two more piece for the Cameron House, I would like to have a dozen to choose from - I'll have finished fourteen but I know they won't all make the cut to be hung. Right before bed I started slashing around some shapes to music and got to this point, I really like the foundation for this piece, we'll see what happens.

Details from Abstracts

Here are some detail shots of the abstract pieces, the show is called, "Satellite Pacific" and will be hung at the Cameron House on the first of November, the closing reception will be either the 22nd or 29th from 4-7pm with music by Colonel Tom Parker and the American Pour.
It has been a surprise from Day One working on these pieces and continues to be a surprise as I  approach the hang date, when I decided to create some abstract work I had no idea what colour palette I would use or what form the paintings would take, it has been a constant series of revelations, discoveries and setbacks, seven of the pieces have really come together and look great, five are unfinished but are now "telling me what to do" to finish them and two are still kind of confusing to me.

Abstract Paintings, Process, Preambles

(all the above shots are process pieces not finished paintings)

I've been back in the studio finishing the series of abstracts that I began seven months ago. It does feel a little strange coming back to work on the pieces after a break but on the other hand some of the exploratory work I'm doing with them (using different brushes, colours etc) got my really excited to start moving the mud around.
These are for my yearly show at the Cameron House, there will be a closing party instead of an opening (only due to scheduling) and the work will be hung on the First of November, there's already a huge interest in two or three of the pieces which is nice coming into, specifically because this is my first show of abstracts and also this will be my first show in a long while where the work is priced high. Usually I show a lot of smaller works, I have always been a fan of small works but this time I really wanted the pieces to dominate with small numbers and big sizes. Each piece is 30x30 inches which is very large for me, I have done work this size in the past and felt comfortable with the 30x30 size but have never done a whole show of work in this format.
I am enjoying exploring my relation to colour for this show, I've always loved blue but I had no idea how much, this will become more apparent as more photos are posted over the next couple of weeks, it's an interesting process and best expressed in the process shots. which I'll try to post every two days or so.
Back down to the studio, have an excellent Thanksgiving weekend

Homeless G-Men Until the End of May

The show is up at the Press Club (850 Dundas West) until the end of May and work is selling steadily is your favourite drawing still there? Better head down and pick it up before its gone. All proceeds go to the printing of the Homeless G-Men graphic novel which will be finished one year from now and ready to be read. The writing/plotting/drawing and inking is coming along I have about twenty almost finished pages so far. It's a lot of work and a lot of fun.

New Promos at the Cameron House

Just an update that I have new promo materials at the Cameron House (pictured above) some beautiful postcards that I dropped off yesterday. I meant to do this about a year ago when I finished the mural but somehow never got around to it. So here they are they also have my twitter handle on them so you can follow me there and find out as soon as new posts come up at my many blogs.
The promo features one of the figures from the mural at the Cameron one of my semi-famous Deep Sea Divers and a line of fun faces.
best,

Homeless G-Men at the Press Club

The show is up and looking fine, to truly get the Sardi's effect I probably would have to double the amount of drawings hanging in the Press Club. The show looks great, work is selling and you can see it for the whole month of April at 850 Dundas West.
Many thanks to Ron Leary for playing and to everyone who came out to hang and look at the work.
The Homeless G-Men comic will debut in May 2015, I'll keep you posted of the progress as the work is written, drawn and coloured.
cheers!

Gull City Grid

Here are twenty four citizens of Gull City who will be hung "Sardi's style" at the Press Club (850 Dundas West) tomorrow. There will be a small, "Meet the Artist" (me) on Thursday, April 3rd from 7-9pm and the Ron Leary Sextet plays after that, he may have an opening act I'm not sure.
Today is a day of rest, I have cards printed, some advanced promo cards that I'm taking over to the Press Club tonight and some more promoting to do online but I've got to take it easy today.
This show came together so quickly my head is spinning.
I had been working on these drawing for a couple months with the intention of eventually scanning them into the computer and use them to learn the inking program on Manga Studio 5. I was offered the month at the Press Club and realized that it would be a great venue to transform completely and give it an old Hollywood looking vibe so I began inking and drawing everyday. There are at least twelve completed sketches that didn't make the cut and almost twenty that only made it to the penciling stage and then were abandoned so I believe I have just over forty completed drawings, we'll see how many I get up on the walls.
All drawings are original (no prints), framed and are $25.00 each with all the proceeds going to the printing costs of my first comic, "The Homeless G-Men" so come on by and have a look on Tuesday if you can't make it on Thursday or drop by sometime this month.
all the best, the sun is out

Hanging Sardi's Style at the Press Club on Tuesday

Alright I will be hanging the show on the first of April at around 6pm, it should go up pretty fast and I am really looking forward to the results. As much as love the drawings of the Homeless G-Men characters I am going to love the "Sardi's Style" look of the show and hope to get at least one cool photo of myself sitting in front of the work.
There will be a small reception from 7-9pm at the Press Club (850 Dundas West) followed by music by one of my favourite singer songwriters Ron Leary and his Sextet -that's right a Sextet!
All drawings are $25.00 each and the proceeds go towards printing the Homeless G-Men comic in May 0f 2015.
cheers all,
A.Shay Hahn

Announcements or Waiting to Announce Announcements

I'm trying to figure out how many hours of the day that I'm working on drawings, it seems to be getting up to twelve hours a day.
Why so long ?
 Well here's what may happen
For the next five days I will be drawing for anywhere from 10-12 hours a day. If the plans I am hatching (or attempting to hatch) succeed this is what is going to happen at the end of these five days. I will have about sixty of these drawings (see above) that I like and want to show together, I will also have sixty wooden frames to put them in (not plastic, never plastic, this is a quality operation) I currently have fifteen frames.
Once I get the go ahead from the boys at the Press Club to hang the show I will head over on the first of April and hang as many of them as I can in the space then price them for the ridiculously low sum of $25.00 each or two for $40.00 (any advance sales for individual pictures will be handled as bid starting at $30.00) and then on Thursday April 3rd have a small opening for them from 7-9 before Ron Leary plays and sell them all off.
The money from this enterprise will be squirrelled away for the printing costs of  the "Homeless G-Men" and "Squirleycorn" comics in May 2015.
I think Hannibal ( as played by George Peppard) would approve, what was his last name?
Gird your loins for further announcements

Smudges and Lines, Squirley Corn and the Homeless G-Men

I've been over at the "Smudges and Lines" blog for the past week and a bit drawing and posting and talking about comic art, so come on over and hang out.
I changed the title of the blog to "Squirley Corn and the Homeless G-Men" which are the two comic projects that I'm working on, I have to see if I can change the address to it as well since there is another artist who has a blog called, "Lines and Smudges" and I don't want folks confusing the two of us, I'll see if I can get this sorted.
So if you like drawings like this dude at the top head on over to the other blog via the sidebar link (top right).
Let's keep this sun shinin' on
