Thanks for reminding me Carol !

I know that in my profile it used to say I was going to document my friends and my attempt to quit smoking. Well we set a date for the 5 th of September, the Monday after Labour Day and we all quit, twelve of us, just like that, none of us could understand what the big deal was about using all these gums and patches and stuff, just get out and walk a little more, drink a little more water, and you to can quit smoking. Don't let that voice in your head win. We've been smoke free for FIVE months ! You can do it too!

Here are two pieces not being shown at the Rivoli that I like very much, NOTE the first image is no longer available for purchase.
1. Coney Island, 22x28. acrylic/canvas $550.00

AHA! No Problem, No Worries

Hello Friends ! It seems that I had to switch to Firefox Mozilla in order to post....

A Few Words About Birdhouses by A.Shay Hahn
(all works shown property of A.Shay Hahn, 16 x 16 in. acrylic on canvas $250.00
as always contact the artist @ madcraftshoppe@hotmail.com, serious inquiries only)

I don't often write that much about my work on this site or anywhere else, I've always felt that an image's meaning becomes clearer to me after a period of time, why did I choose to paint this ? What does it mean to me ? etc. The Birdhouses were an exception to this rule,I find that the majority of my work is nostalgia based, rooted strongly in memories or images of things past - contextual memory ( remembering an event from the entire whole and not a specific scene) also plays a large part in my choices of what to paint.

If you think back to when you were a child, if you had a fair sized backyard your perceptions of scale were radically underdeveloped, your hand was small so the dumptruck you held in your hand was gigantic, a sandbox seemed to be about ten ft. by ten ft. wide when it was less than half that etc. The birdhouses towered in our backyard, they seemed so high up, especially when you looked up to see a plane flying overhead, so small it seemed that it would be able to fit into the hole of the birdhouse. The birdhouse represents Home, it is a marker in the backyard where I grew up, if I was taking a short cut through the hedges I could look across the yards and see it, it was a locus or a sign post. In the iconography of what I paint, it still remains just that, "Home".

And you say "Well that's all well and good Mr. Shay, but what about these tiny women ?". The women are there to call the birds home to the birdhouse - simple as that.

This is the part where I get selfconscious about what I'm writing and move onto the next thing any further questions about Birdhouses will be answered at the Cameron House or by emailing the artist.
Thanks !

Once more a sincere thank you to Cindy and Paul and all the bands, staff, artists, Quantum Rock Friday Astronauts, Shmensday Shminners, friends and new friends who made my show at the Cameron in November such a success. I believe that I have yearly status at the Cameron in regards to hanging a show each November so stay tuned to the Shoppe !
