Now Showing at Super Jet Int'l

All pieces are acrylic on canvas

lifejackets are 24x24 inches,
$400.00 each
We are proud to say that you can now visit these paintings at Super Jet Int'l which is at 346 Dupont Str. between Howland and Spadina. Head on over and check them out they are up for the whole month, then maybe wander down to Snakes and Lattes and see my work there and until Sunday December 8th you can then wander to the Cameron House and see my work. Lookit that I just gave you a whole art walk that you can do - start with a coffee (maybe the coveted David Lynch brand) at Super Jet then go to Snakes to play some games and have some food then head to the Cameron House for beers and live music.
Many thanks to my twin John for letting me hang in his space, I will be there at least once a week for the month of December follow me on twitter to find out when!
cheers!

Back Down In the Studio

Back in the studio after having to pause for a bit, putting in the boat with lantern and balancing out my light and darks. The "gold band" across the horizon also needs work, but that's no problem.
I should be down at the Cameron House today from 4-7pm or so, if that changes I'll let you know.

Extended at the Cameron House! Still time to buy local!

Hey there folks! Just wanted to share the news that the show at the Cameron House has been extended and the last day is the 9th of November, still plenty of time to see the show and pick up a painting, may I suggest you buy one for a loved one for Christmas.
Coming up right after my show is Sam Ferrara's yearly Christmas show and the opening reception for that is (I believe) on Thursday December 12th.
Bit of a down week here at the shoppe, I've been working on some writing and trying to do a drawing a day. I'll be back on with commissioned work starting tomorrow.
I've been trying to get my drawing style back up to snuff, it's been difficult and I may just do some watercolour with line work instead of using drafting markers, but expect some drawings to be showing up here, nothing that I want to sell, just exercises that keep me thinking about line weight etc.
I should be down at the Cameron tomorrow from 4-6pm or so if you want some company.

The show is up until the end of the month all work is acrylic on canvas and everything is priced at $160.00, it's fine to purchase from the bar staff and take the work home if I'm not there.
Currently working on a commission and doing some drawings for a new project that I'm going to talk about soon.

Untitled (Travel II)
10 x12 inches, acrylic on canvas
$160.00
Adding this piece to the Cameron House show today and I'll be back with reports on what has sold so far, I was there Monday but haven't been down since had to do some repairs around the house and work on a commission, and of course play the "Burial At Sea" DLC for Bioshock Infinite, I'm not finished yet so no spoilers, it's nice to be back in Rapture.
Expect a couple more posts this weekend.
cheers,

Flying Chairs and Sketch Notes

Here's a commission that I'm currently working on (sorry for the delay in posting a photo) placing the chairs is always the trickiest part, they have to look like they're moving together, almost like a flock but also each one needs a "role" to stand out, but compliment the overall composition.
That may not sound clear but it's what I think about as I decide the angle of each chair they also have to relate to the rowboat that will be on the right side of the piece.
It's thinking work - and it hurts my brain.
I'm also going to add some of my sketch pages to the blog as I work on some commissions, this is where the "Last Gorilla On The Moon" concept came from, I think it was around 2011 when I first thought about doing it. The "Red Queen" Note is completely lost from my memory - no idea what that painting was going to be about.
I'll be down at the Cameron House today from 4-7pm if you'd like to see the show, Corin Raymond should be performing so that's also a win for you.
I'll also be hanging a new large RAYGUN! at Snakes and Lattes today.

Dog Confronts Mortality

Today was a slow day in the studio, started a few things, stopped a few things, wasn't quite the day I was looking for and I'm usually able to turn things around but I really didn't get anywhere. It's fine though I'm in great shape for the hang (which is either Friday or Saturday, I'll let you know) and feeling good about the upcoming Reception ( Saturday, November 2nd, 6-9pm at the Cameron House) so this week I'll just play it by ear and do what I want, get back to sketching for a commission etc.

Travel, Vintage Luggage, Knowledge, Titles

Untitled
10x12 inches, acrylic on canvas
$160.00
This is one of two travel inspired pieces that I worked on last week, as for the title I have no idea what to call the painting, which is strange since the titles I choose for my work are usually the simplest ones that I can think of.

The Ghost of A Field Hand

the Ghost of A Field Hand (WIP)
12x16inches, acrylic on canvas
$160.00
Here's a better idea of the colour palette I was using when I was painting the series, Powder blue, Cadmium yellow deep, orange, Vandyke Brown. Also I guess I'll mention the heads, I wanted a way to show ghosts that wasn't trite, the same way that the "flag of feathers" women are angels, if I put the kerchief over the head it's a ghost. It does have a similar feel as "the Lovers" by Magritte but hey, what are you gonna do about it.
This is a WIP shot, not the finished piece, but it's close.

Reception at the Cameron House, Sat. Nov 2nd, 6-9pm

The Ghost of A Gentleman Farmer

The Ghost of A Gentleman Farmer
12x16 inches, acrylic on canvas
$160.00
I'll be posting some paintings today that I starting working on about a year ago, I took a break from the series to do some writing and they waited down in the studio for me to get back to them. I really like the tones and colour work, which will be more apparent in the next two posts. I'm going to include them in the Cameron House show.

The Boy Who Kicked The Bucket

The Boy Who Kicked The Bucket
10x12 inches, acrylic on canvas
$160.00
I had to do it, I just had to, the idea for this short series called "Jerks" came to me a couple of days ago while I was walking the dog. I thought it was a pretty funny idea so I just had to see if I could do it. It's really simple, but I quite like it.

Untitled (Satellite)

Untitled (Satellite)
10x12 inches, acrylic on canvas
$160.00
I steal a lot of photos from people I know on facebook and of course if I ever use the source I always give credit. The source material for this piece was a photo by (Col.) Tom Parker of his horse Beaumont. It's a great early morning grey photo and I couldn't wait for the time to come to use it.
I was going to call this piece "A Horse Named Satellite" but something just felt wrong about changing the name of another man's horse.
Many thanks to Natalie Jubb for taking the time yesterday to speak to me about my work and my upcoming show, when her interview is published at the Fragmentalist I'll let you know.
